Ohio Asian Awards Gala
The awards gala will take place starting at 6:00pm on Saturday August 27 2016, at the Hollywood Casino Event Center in Columbus. Join us for one of Ohio’s premier business and social events, with nearly 500 business, community leaders, and elected officials in attendance. Doors to the Grand Ballroom open at 7 pm and the awards presentation starts at 8pm. After dinner, stay late to listen to the music of the Paradygm Shyft Band, a leading local band, playing your favorite popular songs from American and Asian songs.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Asian American Commerce Group and its efforts to foster economic, community, and political vitality of the Asian-American community in Ohio.
In addition the Asian American Commerce Group will make a donation to Asian American Community Services.
2016 Honorary Chairs
The life-long Columbus native and Columbus city school graduate previously served on the Columbus Board of Education from 2001-2005, the Columbus City Council from 2007-2015, and was president of Council from 2011 until assuming the Office of Mayor January 1, 2016. Under his leadership, Columbus has added 50,000 jobs, increased wages, and reduced healthcare, workers’ compensation, pension and other expenses by more than $260 million.
Mayor Ginther has been a champion for critical crime prevention strategies, including the Police Summer Strike Force and Community Crime Patrol and is working with schools and leaders to increase access to high-quality prekindergarten Mayor Ginther is leading a new initiative to reduce infant mortality in Columbus. Celebrate One is a collaborative effort to reduce infant mortality by 40 percent and improve the health of our neighborhoods through cutting the racial health disparity gap in half by 2020.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science from Earlham College, studied abroad at the University of Ulster and Queen’s College in Northern Ireland, and taught at public schools in Belfast and Derry. He also served in consecutive internships at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, where he taught non-violence and dispute resolution.
Lisa startedAdvanced Engineering Consultants in 1998. Lisa brought with her expertise acquired over several years in project planning, management and electrical design of new build and renovation projects. AEC has received “Business First’s” Fast 50 award for four years including most recently in 2014. She serves on the Board of the Ohio Women Organization, and is a member ofboth the Women Presidents Organization and the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). Lisa is asupporter of several charities including the National Alliance for Mental Illness of Ohio (NAMI Ohio), the Private Leisure Assistance for Youth (PLAY) through the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, and the Children’s Water Festival.
He has served on the faculty of the business college since 1998 and has held the Dean’s Distinguished Professorship and the David A. Rismiller Professorship in Finance. He chaired Fisher’s Department of Finance and was responsible for the development of Fisher’s top-ranked Executive MBA program.
He is a widely published and highly respected researcher as well as the winner of numerous teaching awards. Makhija has led and participated in consulting and executive development programs for dozens of leading companies in the U.S. and in countries across the globe, and has been a featured expert in outlets such as the The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The New York Times, Financial Times and Bloomberg Businessweek, among many others.
He has a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MBA from Tulane University, and a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi.
